Foreign travelers of Crete described the bread of the Cretans not in the best words. The wise Englishman Robert Passley was impressed by the beautiful black bread of the well-being of Crete, made with wheat, barley and rye. Many years passed, studies were carried out, and it turned out that the Cretans were right! The fibers contained in traditional bread help to better function the intestine and especially the colon.
Full bread has larger amounts of B vitamins, which are necessary for the proper functioning of the nervous system. Moreover, it is said that full bread probably prevents cancer of the gastrointestinal tract, especially the large intestine!.
The Cretan paximadi is recognized by the European Community by conquering consumers, due to the pure natural materials used in its manufacture and because of its high dietary value.
The preservation of knowledge and philosophy of Cretan nutrition have helped in the recognition of products throughout Greece and beyond.
In Crete there are round paximadia (Dakos) served even in good restaurants, making it a special treat. With fresh tomato, aromatic plants, olive oil and sometimes myzithra, dakos is a special delicacy and a special combination of pure natural products!
